Terms of Service

Draft pending legal review. This document is a plain-language working draft written to describe how Altru intends to operate. It has not been reviewed by an attorney and is not a substitute for professional legal advice. Sections needing formal review are marked [needs legal review].
These terms describe how Altru works and what we expect from students and organizations. By using Altru, you agree to them. We've written them in plain language; the enforceable legal version requires attorney review before launch.
01 Accounts
You must provide accurate information and keep your login secure. You're responsible for activity on your account. Students under a certain age may need parental consent to register. [needs legal review]
02 Student responsibilities
Show up for shifts you claim, or cancel in advance so someone else can take your spot. Do not misrepresent your identity, age, or eligibility. Repeated no-shows may limit your access.
03 Organization responsibilities
Post accurate opportunities, provide a safe environment, and only verify hours that were actually completed. You are responsible for supervising volunteers and complying with applicable laws, including those covering minors. [needs legal review]
04 Volunteer opportunities
Altru is a platform that connects students and organizations. We do not employ volunteers, run the opportunities, or guarantee their quality or safety. Arrangements are between the student and the organization.
05 Hours verification
Only the hosting organization can confirm attendance and hours. Students cannot self-verify. Verified records reflect the organization's confirmation; Altru does not independently audit each shift.
06 Service documents
Transcripts and exports reflect the data organizations have verified. We provide them for your convenience; institutions may set their own requirements for accepting service records.
07 Acceptable use
No harassment, fraud, spam, scraping, or posting false or unsafe opportunities. Don't attempt to access accounts or data that aren't yours.
08 Moderation & reporting
Users can report fake organizations, inappropriate opportunities, or unsafe situations. We may review, remove content, or suspend accounts that violate these terms.
09 Cancellations
Students may cancel a claimed spot; organizations may edit or cancel opportunities. We ask everyone to communicate changes promptly and respectfully.
10 Account termination
You can delete your account anytime. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or create risk for the community.
11 Limitation of liability
Altru is provided “as is.” To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for the conduct of students or organizations or for outcomes of volunteer activities. This clause in particular requires legal review. [needs legal review]
12 Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. We'll post the new version with an updated date and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
