Guide for organizations

How to post on Altru.

From sign-up to your first verified volunteer hour, in five steps.

Steps

  1. 01

    Create your organization

Name, type, and how people reach you. Add a logo, description, and social links whenever you like — that becomes your public page.

  2. 02

    Get verified

A quick check that you're a real organization: your website, a contact email, and a phone number (an EIN helps). Once approved you show Verified by Altru ✦ and can publish.

  3. 03

    Post an opportunity

About five minutes. Post a single date, a repeating series, or hand-picked dates — each becomes its own session students sign up for. Save a draft anytime.

  4. 04

    Students sign up

Students claim spots in one tap. When you're full, a waitlist fills in automatically as spots open. Volunteers get a reminder before the shift and can add it to their calendar.

  5. 05

    Verify hours after the shift

Open the opportunity from your dashboard and tap Verify for each volunteer (or mark a no-show). Hours land on the student's record instantly as Verified Hours ✦ — students can never verify their own.

Posts students actually sign up for.

  • Lead the title with the action

“Sort donations at the Saturday pantry” beats “Volunteers needed”.

  • Use real photos

Your space, past events, the team. Students trust what they can picture.

  • List the tasks

One per line. It becomes a checklist students can scan in seconds.

  • Set honest times

Hours are calculated from your start and end times — that's what volunteers earn.

  • Say who it's for

A minimum age and what to bring prevents no-shows and awkward day-ofs.

  • Add a real contact

A role like “Volunteer Coordinator” with an email students can use.

Questions

What does it cost?

Altru is free to start for organizations.

Can I edit or cancel after publishing?

Yes — from your dashboard. Signed-up volunteers are notified about changes and cancellations.

What if more people want to come than I have spots?

Extra sign-ups join a waitlist and are moved in automatically, in order, when a spot opens.

Who confirms the hours?

Only your organization. That's what makes Altru hours count for schools and scholarships.
